Samsung officially announces I7500 – it's first Android phone
Just got home from a late meeting and read Samsung’s official announcement of it’s first Android based mobile phone so I decided to post it here. It’s official, Samsung will be coming out with the I7500 mobile phone — it’s first Android powered mobile phone.
The Samsung I7500 will be available in major European countries from June 2009 (sorry no word yet on when the US market gets its hands on the device). The Samsung I7500 features a 3.2” AMOLED full touch screen (320×480 — when will we ever get to an 800×480 device? I hope its gonna be soon). Of course it will have HSDPA (7.2Mbps) and WiFi connectivity. The camera is 5-megapixel /auto-focus. Not too sure if power LED means it’s going to have an LED flash. Of course Bluetooth® 2.0 and USB 2.0. And get this — a 3.5mm ear jack at last no more adapters. Plus 8GB of internal memory with up to 32GB of microSD external storage.
The Samsung I7500 also offers users access to the full suite of Google services, including Google Search™, Google Maps™, Gmail™, YouTube™, Google Calendar™, and Google Talk™. The integrated GPS receiver enables the comprehensive use of Google Maps features, such as My Location, Google Latitude, Street View, local search and detailed route description. Hundreds of other applications are available in Android Market. For example, the application Wikitude, a mobile travel guide, allows consumers to access details of unknown sights via location-based Wikipedia articles.
What is unclear though is whether some features like multi-touch, video capture and hardware 3D is part of the device but the 8GB internal memory plus the 5-megapixel camera is something to think about for those of you planning to buy their next mobile phone.
