Motorola Android development and mobile phone
Motorola has gone a long way since I first read about the news that it’s hiring some 300 Android developers. It has heavily invested in the Android open mobile platform that Google has initiated. Recently it has opened up it’s web site for Android development in preparation for its upcoming mobile phones based on Android. It has even started beta on its new MotoDev Studio for the Android platform.
And recently leaks / rumors have been going around the Net of its upcoming Android based mobile phone. From an article at brighthand, it looks like that the first Android mobile phone in the US will be carried by Verizon.

So far details have been sketchy with the mobile phone being codenamed “Sholes”. Some of its rumored features include:
- 4.6 inches wide, 2.3 inches tall, 0.54 inches thick (115.8 mm wide, 60.0 mm tall, 13.70 mm thick)
- 6.0 ounces (169 g)
- sliding horizontally-oriented QWERTY keyboard
- screen resolution of 480 by 854 pixels
- 256 MB of RAM
- 16 GB microSD card
- access Verizon’s EV-DO Rev
- Wi-Fi and Bluetooth 2.0 +EDR
- 5 megapixel auto-focus camera
- a GPS receiver
- a 1400 mAh battery
It looks like an October launch from Verizon is expected. Things are really accelerating in the Android mobile platform space as expected new mobile phones are new now sporting a display resolution that has 800+ pixels when used in landscape mode.
