Sony Xperia X10 announced, can only display 16000 colors

Sony Ericsson has finally announced the Android based Xperia X10 mobile phone. The Xperia X10 boasts of an 854 x 480 pixel display, a phone memory of 1GB and supports up to 16GB external storage with an 8GB microSD included in the package. What’s alarming to me is that from the official Sony Ericsson page, it says that the screeen is only capable of displaying 16,536 colors — IS THIS REALLY TRUE, I hope its an error ‘coz I can just imagine trying to watch movies using a screen that can only display 16000 colors. Checkout the screen capture from the Sony Ericsson web page below:

I sure hope Sony Ericsson clarifies the specification in question ‘coz it’s an Android mobile phone that I would consider as the top connected phones for 2009 together with the Acer Liquid, Motorola Milestone, HTC Dragon, Nokia N900 and the iPhone 3GS. Here’s the official Sony Ericsson page for Xperia X10 .

Update (12/3/2009): At last Sony Ericsson has made the corrections and updated the page. The page now displays 65,536 colors.

no, display panel can display 16 million colors, BUT Android v1.6 supports only 65000 colors, you can update to Android v2.0 which supports 16 million colors later :)
