Samsung's open mobile platform called Bada announced
With the continued growth of the mobile space, Samsung has announced it’s foray into the mobile operating system space. Samsung has announced it’s own open mobile platform called Bada (means “Ocean” in Korean). Bada joins the already existing mobile OS such as Android, Blackberry OS, iPhone OS, Maemo, Symbian, WebOS and Windows Mobile to name some.

With Samsung owning a sizeable market share in the mobile space, it’s a logical business step to be able to have full control of the operating system that it uses in its mobile phones. With a lot at stake, the introduction of it’s own open mobile platform brings to the table a lot of benefits for the company. For instance, the introduction of it’s own open mobile platform could potentially sell more handsets if developers find the platform open and lucrative for developing apps.
To entice mobile developers, Samsung has also announced that on December, along side the release of its open mobile platform Bada, it is also starting off a mobile developer’s challenge. Although the prizes and details has not yet been announced, the contest is a great way to get the support of the developers.
This will also solicit more support to the Samsung App Store that it has started a while back.
What makes me wonder is what Samsung’s plan for Android will be now that it has its own open mobile platform. We will just have to wait until December to know more about Bada. Read more information from the Bada web site which is now up.
