Yahoo Mail Android app

Yahoo has recently released it’s mobile app for Yahoo Mail. I’ve just installed the Yahoo Mail mobile app for Android on my Samsung Spica to check it out. To sum up my first impressions, it’s quite good actually — better than the mobile web version for Yahoo Mail.

In comparison to the stock email app on my Samsung Spica and the Google Mail app I also have installed, the Yahoo Mail app looks more well layed out and the interface more consistent. In fact, it would have been nice to have an email / messaging app like the Yahoo Mail rather than the stock email app or the Gmail app.

After logging in to your email account, it displays a list of your folders. This includes folders that you have created plus some “smart folders” that groups together things like “Email from Contacts” and Photos. You can search you mails and get one-click access to the Yahoo Messenger mobile app if you have installed it on your Android phone.

It supports reading HTML email content. If you’re creating an email, you can add attachments including photos you have saved in your image gallery.

Optional customizations included are very minimal though and they just include message preview, notifications and appending of a custom email signature. Plus an option to delete the single account that you have setup on the Yahoo Mail app.

Managing multiple emails is currently limited to moving and deleting them. I think that it should have at least a way to mark multiple emails as already read. To manage multiple emails, you need to click on the “Edit” button on the upper right corner of the screen. It would have been better if it stays in the “Edit” mode after doing a single move rather than going back to the normal “View” mode.

I have just one “nice to have” comment about the Yahoo Mail app that I’d like to get out of the way before describing the mobile app. It would have been nice to have it support multiple Yahoo Mail accounts.

Here are some screen shots of the Yahoo Mail Android app:
