iPhone 4 Carrier Unlock

From the very first generation of the iPhone, Apple has put it protection that makes it hard for people to get unhindered access to the iPhone OS software. In the US, AT&T has exclusive rights to sell the iPhone 4 and these phones have been carrier locked to AT&T (even those being sold without contract).

Well, a famous team of hackers called the iPhone Dev has actually found a way to get the new iPhone 4 carrier unlock. This means that if you bought an AT&T locked iPhone 4 in the US, you can use their software to unlock the iPhone 4 so that you can start using it in another mobile carrier. Here’s a video of their successful unlocking of the iPhone 4:

The software is already working but I guess their prepping it up for prime time so that everyone can easiily use the software. Of course there’s also that problem of your mobile carrier being able to provide a microSIM that the iPhone 4 uses!

You can follow the iPhone Dev team at Twitter and read about their work on their blog.
