Droid Verizon connected phone is getting Froyo

It’s official. Over the coming weeks, the Android based Motorola DROID will be geting an OS update to version 2.2 aka Froyo via OTA. The update will be coming in two drizzles. The first one will upgrade the Motorola Droid Verizon connected phone’s firmware to Android version 2.2 also known as Froyo.

While the second update will allow users of the Verizon connected phone to download and use the Adobe® Flash® Player 10 for Android from the Android Marketplace.

The Froyo software update, will include some of the following new security options:

  • Remote device wipe and device lock.
  • Password complexity and minimum password length.
  • Wipe after a certain number of password attempts and enforcement of
    auto lockout time.

And of course the Android 2.2 update for the Droid mobile phone under Verizon will be sporting the enhanced browser performance of Froyo for faster loading of JavaScript heavy pages.

Other enhancements include:

  • Easy shortcuts for access to the phone, application launcher, and browser from any of the five home screens.
  • Use Bluetooth® voice dialing for hands-free calling and hear your instructions repeated back for accuracy.

One important note: Although the software update is free, downloading the updates to your Droid will entail the usual data charges.
