RIM has announced the launch of the first ever BlackBerry® DEVCON Europe and the second BlackBerry® DEVCON Asia — and now they’re announcing the venues. BlackBerry DEVCON Asia will be held in December in Bangkok, Thailand. And BlackBerry DEVCON Europe will be in Amsterdam on February 7 & 8, 2012.
The Call for Papers has been extended. The deadline is now Friday July 15th for BlackBerry DEVCON Asia and Friday September 16th for DevCon Europe.

Good news for those who use Nokia phones running on Symbian 5 or Symbian 3.2 – an update is coming to these mobile phones according to Nokia.
It seems that Nokia hasn’t forgotten its Symbian users in spite of the Windows Phone direction that they are now talking. To give you an idea, Symbian 3.2 based Nokia phones include the Nokia E72, E52, E5, C5-00 and the Nokia 6700 slide.
Symbian 5.0 Nokia phones included in the update are the Nokia C6-00, C5-03, 5230, Nokia 5235, 5250, X6, N97 mini, 5530 XpressMusic and my beloved Nokia 5800 XpressMusic.

Nokia has launched today the Create for Millions challenge. The global competition is a two pronged competition aimed at both the consumer and developer of mobile apps.
On one side, consumers are encouraged to join by submitting app ideas that would run on Nokia’s Series 40 mobile phones. Winning entries may see their ideas become real apps at Nokia World and meet the developers who created them. The trip to Nokia World will be free and paid for by Nokia.

Meego, an open mobile platform jointly developed by Nokia and Intel, is getting its first mobile phone in the form of the Nokia N9. With the unique “no front buttons” design of the Nokia N9, swipe gestures is the focus of the Meego design. From navigating the three home screens (notifications, main screen, running apps) to switching and accessing mobile apps, the Meego design lets users do things with a simple swipe.
The Nokia N9 is made of a single piece of polycarbonate that has been machine precisioned and seamlessly integrated with a curved glass. The 3.9-inch AMOLED screen is made from scratch-resistant curved glass. The N9 is equipped with an 8-megapixel Carl Zeiss autofocus camera with a wide-angle lens. It is capable of capturing HD-quality video capture and the large lens aperture provides great pictures even in lowlighting conditions. The Nokia N9 is also the world’s first smartphone with Dolby® Digital Plus decoding and Dolby Headphone post-processing technology.

The Apple Store in the US has started selling unlocked versions of its iPhone 4 on their web site. Both black and white versions of the iPhone 4 is currently available. The iPhone 4 is available in either 16-GB and 32-GB models. The unlocked 16-GB iPhone 4 is currently selling at US$649 while the 32-GB version is available for US$749. The unlocked iPhone 4 can only be delivered to a US address if you order it from the US Apple Store. You can check out the details here.

Scoreloop might be new to your ears but they are actually on a lot of the popular games not only for Android mobile phones but for iPhones as well. Game developers like Magma Mobile uses their SDK. What is Scoreloop, you ask. They actually created a set of software that allows mobile game developers to incorporate features like leaderboards, push notifications and social interaction.
The Scoreloop team will be joining the BlackBerry development team. By the looks of things, BlackBerry may be going into a deeper level into mobile games by providing extra features to BlackBerry app developers.

Sprint has announced two new mobile devices from HTC coming on June 24. The new devices are the HTC EVO 3D mobile phone and the HTC EVO View 4G tablet. Both devices are powered by Android version 2.3 aka Gingerbread. Both HTC EVO mobile devices are capable of 4G data transfer speeds. The HTC EVO View 4G has WiMAX connectivity.

The Samsung Indulge is the latest Cricket connected phone that is powered by the Android open mobile platform. It has a 3.5-inch HVGA TFT touch screen display and a QWERTY keyboard. The Samsung Indulge is loaded with Android version 2.2 aka Froyo plus all the other goodies made by Google like Google Maps, Youtube, Gmail and Google Talk to name a few. Of course you can always install additional apps on the Samsung Indulge.

Here’s some good news for HTC EVO™ 4G from Sprint customers. Sprint has announced that this coming Monday, June 6, they will receive the Android™ 2.3, Gingerbread, update through an over-the-air maintenance release. The update will be in batches so wait for your notification from Sprint. The notification will let users know the update is available and provide the simple two-step, over-the-air download instructions.
Can’t wait to get Android 2.3, there will be an easy user initiated option to download the upgrade starting on Friday, June 3. Just read this announcement.
