Gameloft, the leading global publisher / developer of video games for mobile devices is making a killing on the iPhone. They have published several hit apps like the like Driver®, The Settlers®, Skater Nation, Shrek® Kart, , Tom Clancy’s H.A.W.X® and Asphalt 5. I’m sure that they got a fair share of the big spike in holiday sales for the iPod Touch.

Google has just set one more step in motion to execute its broad plan of opening up the GLOBAL mobile industry. I guess some people just don’t understand what is happening but make no doubt about it, they have a solid plan.
Things started during the last frequency auction in the US where they laid some conditions for the auction. Google has laid the foundation of opening up the mobile industry. Why? It is key to their business model — make the airwaves open and free.

I’ve just read an article from Techcrunch about Apple’s renewed interest on mobile advertising. Previously it was Admob, this time Apple is looking to buy Quattro Wireless. The rumored price is about 275 million dollars. It’s obvious that Apple want’s to be able to get a share of the burgeoning mobile ads market. With its billions of dollars in cash (about 25 billion last time I looked) waiting to get invested, it’s probably the best investment.
The first obvious reason is money / profit. Mobile advertising has the potential of becoming bigger than traditional web ads. The amount can be in the billions of dollars annually.

It looks like that the Android-based Motorola Milestone aka Droid is not yet the best we’ve seen from Motorola. From tipped rumor published by BGR, there seems to be some clue from China that there is going to be yet another Android-based mobile phone from Motorola far better than the Droid. So far the specs are a bit sketchy.

It looks like that the rumored Motorola mobile phone will sport the same 850×484 screen resolution but this time the display will be 4.3 inches in size. The Motorola Droid is just 3.7inches. The other juicy specs include an HDMI port (wow!), 1080p video (another wow!), 8-megapixel camera (this seems to be standard these days). And get this — 9mm thick (or should I say THIN). The mobile phone is codenamed Mirage or Shadow thanks to a tip from China. This is really going to be a very exciting year for the Android open mobile platform!

Here’s an interesting rumor that Digitimes is running. It seems that the company who won the image sensor orders for the iPhone 3GS, OmniVision Technologies, is seeing to increase it’s 2010 production of it’s 5-megapixel CMOS image sensor (CIS) to 40-45 million units.
So far, the iPhone has seen 3 generations (new model anually). If the pattern keeps up, a fourth generation is bound to be released by the middle of 2010. With the current competition from Android, Maemo and other mobile platforms having better hardware specifications. Apple would be at a disadvantage if it doesn’t consider improving the specifications of the next generation of iPhone.

The emerging smartphone technology has really been ramping up. This 2010, the race to the top for world domination will be fiercier than ever. The competition is much like racing cars. I can also remember the time when Microsoft stepped up the competition on Palm with it’s PocketPC platform for the Personal Digital Assistant (PDA) market back then.
First of all, I want to make it clear why I consider the iPhone on top. I have always believe that when people start comparing smartphones (or connected phones as I call it here), most of them compare apples with oranges. They forget that the iPhone has only been around for about 3 years while competition has been at it for a while. Also, the iPhone for all purposes is a single model/brand mobile phone while it’s competitors offer several models that are sometimes inappropriately consolidated into one for comparison purposes which I consider lame.

The Nokia USA web site has now made available the landing page for the Nokia N900 mobile phone based on the Maemo 5 operating system. The Nokia N900 which has been previewed extensively looks like a very promising connected phone from Nokia. With preorders already available in Europe. Nokia USA preorders should be imminent. From the looks of it, the N900 version that will be available is not actually a North American version but it should work on the T-Mobile network in the US. Continue reading …

Everyone seems to be on the look out these days for an Apple iPhone killer. Well today, I have just found a real iPhone killer (literally). This guy just couldn’t take it anymore and did what he thinks is best — placed his iPhone to rest by shooting several 9mm slugs into it. May his iPhone rest in peace.

How things in the mobile industry have been changing lately. I can still remember how Microsoft and Nokia would go at it in the mobile space but now Nokia has been supporting Microsoft Exchange software in it’s Nokia phones. It looks like that Nokia and Microsoft are slowly forming an alliance in response to the growing competition from the likes of Apple, Google and Blackberry.
