RIM has announced the launch of the first ever BlackBerry® DEVCON Europe and the second BlackBerry® DEVCON Asia — and now they’re announcing the venues. BlackBerry DEVCON Asia will be held in December in Bangkok, Thailand. And BlackBerry DEVCON Europe will be in Amsterdam on February 7 & 8, 2012.

The Call for Papers has been extended. The deadline is now Friday July 15th for BlackBerry DEVCON Asia and Friday September 16th for DevCon Europe.

Nokia launches “Create for Millions” global competition

Nokia has launched today the Create for Millions challenge. The global competition is a two pronged competition aimed at both the consumer and developer of mobile apps.

On one side, consumers are encouraged to join by submitting app ideas that would run on Nokia’s Series 40 mobile phones. Winning entries may see their ideas become real apps at Nokia World and meet the developers who created them. The trip to Nokia World will be free and paid for by Nokia.

Apple ready for WWDC publishes WWDC app on iTunes

Apple’s Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) is scheduled next week at the Moscone West in San Francisco. Apple usually introduces its newest devices and software during the event as a way to inform Apple developers. This year, Apple has been focusing on its directions for the major releases of its iOS and Mac OS X platforms.

For developers looking to create software for the iOS and Mac OS X, it is also an opportunity to meet and talk with Apple’s engineers — the people who create Apple’s products.

Good news for web site designers and developers who want to test how their sites would function on the Opera Mobile software. Things got easier because you won’t need a mobile phone in order to do so. Opera Software has released version 11 of its Opera Mobile Emulator. Of couse the emulator can also be used in other ways like by technical support teams the provide assistance to users.

This year’s BlackBerry Developer’s Conference for the Americas is taking place at the San Francisco Marriott Marquis in San Francisco, California on October 18-20, 2011. You can now register for the event at the BlackBerry® DEVCON Americas registration page.

BlackBerry has re-opened the BlackBerry DEVCON Americas Call For Papers for developers in Latin America until May 30th because they are looking to have sessions presented in Spanish and Brazilian Portuguese.

Nexus One available as an Android developer phone

Google may have stopped selling the Nexus One but today Google has announced that the once super phone is now for available to Android developers as an unlocked developer phone.

The Nexus One is available at a price of $529. To see the details or order a phone, you need to sign in to your Android developer account and click on the “Development Phones” link.

It looks like Google is laying out more preparations prior to it’s planned carrier billing payment option. Protecting Android apps from unauthorized use has always been a major concern for developers. Today is the start of the 5-day Apple 2010 Worldwide Developer Conference in Moscone West San Francisco. This year there are several announcements from Steve Jobs that most people in the tech world have been waiting for. I am particularly interested because I believe that the news coming out of the conference will have a very important impact in the mobile industry.

Android SDK version 2.1 now available

A few days after the launch of the Google Nexus One mobile phone, the Android team has released version 2.1 of the Android SDK which is named “Flan”. The updated SDK is currently found only one the Google N1 superphone. But it should soon find its way into the other Android phones on the market via online updates. This includes Motorola’s popular Milestone Android mobile phone currently available in the US as the Motorola Droid under Verizon.
