Nokia to make Microsoft mobile software according to closed deal

How things in the mobile industry have been changing lately. I can still remember how Microsoft and Nokia would go at it in the mobile space but now Nokia has been supporting Microsoft Exchange software in it’s Nokia phones. It looks like that Nokia and Microsoft are slowly forming an alliance in response to the growing competition from the likes of Apple, Google and Blackberry.

Symbian OS getting dumped in favor of Linux

Wow! This is a shocker. Nokia has bought Symbian several months back with the intent of open sourcing the mobile operating system and using it in its next generation of touch screen based mobile phones. The acquisition cost about 400 million USD and from what I’ve read Nokia is considering to dump the mobile platform in favor of it’s Linux based Maemo open mobile platform. Maybe it’s the reason that leaked info about the next generation N900 Rover tablet is getting a 3.5 radio chip built-in. Continue reading …

Nokia N900: Something better than the N97?

Several years back, Nokia started a line of mobile tablets that runs Linux Maemo that sports keyboards and bigger screens. Today, I’ve just read from MobileCrunch that the successor to the N810 is already in the works. So what’s exciting about this?

Well Nokia is on its way into crossroads of blurring the line between its tablets and mobile phones because the N900 will not only have wifi but this time a GSM radio and HSPA. More about the specs later but what’s pretty cool is if the Nokia OVI store will gain huge acceptance the way the Apple Appstore has and everyone gets their favorite app on the N900 and all the other Nokia phones out there.

oFono – yet another open mobile platform

Apparently Intel and Nokia thinks that the world needs yet another open mobile platform besides Android, Limo, OpenMoko, Maemo and whatever else is out there.

Intel and Nokia have announced the oFono project which is an open source project for developing an open source telephony solution. oFono.org is a place to bring developers together around designing an infrastructure for building mobile telephony (GSM/UMTS) applications.

More than 1 million Nokia 5800 XpressMusic a month

Although the Nokia 5800xm had some glitches during its start, Nokia has been doing good shipping out a lot of those 5800 XpressMusic mobile phones. To date there should be about 4 million units out there give or take. Current estimates posted at unwiredview is saying that Nokia is currenlty doing more than 1 million 5800xm a month.

According to Nokia, there was initial problems of meeting the demand for the 5800 XpressMusic mobile phone but they have address this already. One of the appeal of the Nokia 5800 XpressMusic mobile phone is the price point. Features included are touchscreen (multi-touch is even possible as demoed by Jamie in his game Space Dancer), 8GB microSD card, HSDPA/3G, wifi, 360×640 display, music player, 30fps video, autofocus camera plus accessories normally found in Nokia’s high end phones.

15 minute video of Nokia N97

It looks like the upcoming Nokia N97 mobile phone is getting sexier and sexier as the release date comes near. The specs for the Nokia N97 looks great. It also includes a physical keyboard along with the specs that you’d expect in a connected phone. This Nokia N97 will be the second phone that Nokia is releasing that uses it’s touch technology. The first one being the Nokia XpressMusic 5800. Many thanks to tnkgrl for posting the video of the Nokia N97.

Photos of connected phones from Nokia

I’ve just finished uploading photos of several cell phones from Nokia. In my opinion these are mobile phones that I would consider to be in the exclusive list of well connected phones that I am currently collecting. I’ll be updating the photo gallery to include other phone models from different cell phone manufacturers as well.
